"The Shelter of the Ocean" by Yisoo Kim, Age 17, Republic of Korea
Artist's Statement: Mangrove, the shelter of the ocean The mangrove is a very important plant that supports ocean life by providing nutrients to breed different organisms. The intention behind my painting is to show how mangroves are an essential shelter for fish, microorganisms, and other organisms. I drew the microorganisms like a jelly- like fantasy creature so my painting would give more of a magical mood, because I believe the way how mangrove protects the ocean life is very magical and fascianating. The overall mood of this painting is very bright and joyful, portraying the harmony among living things around the mangrove.
