2022 Science Without Borders® Challenge Semi-Finalists: 11-14 year old students

The Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation is pleased to announce the semi-finalists in our 2022 Science Without Borders® Challenge! This international student art contest engages students in important ocean issues through art. For this year’s competition, students were asked to illustrate one or more actions people can take to protect coral reefs using a “Ridge to Reef”conservation approach.

Entries to the Science Without Borders® Challenge are judged in two categories based on age. Here are the semi-finalists selected from the younger group of applicants, students 11-14 years old:

Although the window to save these coral reefs has not closed, it is closing relatively fast, and the time to act is now. Many organizations have been created to save these coral reefs by creating marine-protected areas, inspecting them with satellites, or even working with politicians to help these beautiful wonders. However, the reefs also need your help. Maybe instead of driving to work, why don't try a bike to reduce your carbon footprint? What if you dispose of your trash properly and recycle it? Why don't you turn the AC off and save some energy at home? Or it could even be as simple as spreading the word to others. These changes might seem small, but if everybody, all 7.9 billion of us, worked together, we can reopen this window again.
