Bio
Amanda earned a Master’s Degree in Marine Science with a concentration in Marine Policy at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington and a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Geographical Sciences at James Madison University, Virginia. She conducted her Master’s research at Boracay Island, Philippines, investigating land use change utilizing Landsat satellite imagery and mapped the geographic distribution of coral reefs utilizing SCUBA diving, GPS and video transect collection from 2006-2008. Her previous research also includes examining coral reef ecosystems in the Turks and Caicos Islands and studying sea turtle biology and marine protected areas in Baja California Sur, Mexico. She has worked at NOAA as an Electronic Navigational Charting Associate in the Marine Chart Division, Office of Coast Survey; and has also participated in environmental education at the elementary, middle school and university levels, nationally and while volunteering abroad.
