Dawn Bailey

Coral Reef Technician

Bio

Dawn Bailey received her B.S. degree in Marine Biology from University of California Santa Cruz and a Master’s of Science in Marine Biology from California State University Northridge. In the temperate kelp forest, she studied fish ecology and population dynamics. Dawn became familiar with tropical coral reefs in 2000 when she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Palau. During her two and a half year service, she surveyed coral, fish, invertebrates, and sea grass populations while establishing a monitoring and assessment program for a newly created Marine Protected Area. She is currently developing a non-profit organization that partners citizen scientists with local tourism and conservation organizations in small island nations. As a coral reef technician on the expedition, Dawn is surveying coral populations for density, colony, size, growth form, and health.
