Gilles Siu was initially a computer science and mathematics scholar (Master’s Degree) from l’École Normale Supérieure and University of Lyon, France, but he has always been very interested in marine biology and diving. In 2010, he was given the opportunity to work for CRIOBE as a computer scientist, to set up a live probe that measures oceanic variables and to make their database available online. This led him to learning fish counting one year after. He is now employed by CRIOBE to take on fish surveys in several sites around the Pacific Ocean (Polynesia Mana Program), manage probes (waves an ocean variables) and feed the database.
