Jeanne Brown is the Coastal Conservation Program Director for the Southeastern Caribbean Program. She is based in the St. Croix, US Virgin Islands office. Since 2007, when she joined the Conservancy, she has lead on-the-ground activities to advance conservation and build effective partnerships with scientific and academic institutions, environmental groups, and public and private organizations engaged in conservation issues and efforts in the US and British Virgin Islands. She has experience in coral reef ecosystem research and sound management strategies for coral reefs and fisheries, as well as research and conservation experience in California, Alaska, Maine, and New York. Jeanne received dual Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology and Biology and dual Master's degrees in Marine Biology and Marine Policy from the University of Maine. Her focus was coral reef ecology and the implications of fisheries management on the reefs of Bonaire and Belize. After completing her bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology for the University of California, Santa Cruz, she served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines. Having dived for research from a wide variety of vessels, including kayaks, inflatable dinghies, pontoon fishing vessels, New England trawlers, not to mention hundreds of shore dives, being able to work aboard the Living Oceans Foundation’s Golden Shadow is a very special opportunity. The amenities, professional staff, and research facilities of this vessel make conducting up to four scientific dives in a day a real pleasure.
