Bio

Krista Sherman has worked at the BNT since July of 2010 as GEF FSP Coordinator for the third pilot demonstration project in The Bahamas – Sustainable Tourism and Coral Reef Health in the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park. In 2005 she graduated with a BSc (magnum cum laude) in Marine Science and a minor in Spanish from Jacksonville University in Florida. Upon completing her studies, she returned to The Bahamas and worked in an unrelated field—offshore banking at UBS Trustees (Bahamas) Ltd. and then as an aquarist for the Marine Aquarium Operations team at Atlantis. She left Atlantis to further her education and obtained an MRes in Ocean Science from the University of Southampton in the UK. Krista returned to The Bahamas in the fall of 2008 and worked for two years as a Research Associate with responsibilities for Patch Reef and Lionfish Ecology Research and Assistant Visiting Programs Manager for the Cape Eleuthera Institute as well as Research Teacher and Advisor for the Island School’s spring and fall semesters. During this period Krista also functioned as coordinator and advisor for the Bahamas Environmental Steward Scholars (BESS) Programme in conjunction with the Bahamas Reef Environmental Education Foundation (BREEF). Her background experience in research has focused on husbandry of various marine organisms, invertebrate physiology, shark conservation biology, coral reef ecology and lionfish biology and ecology. Krista is a certified PADI Rescue Diver and Wilderness First Responder.
