Captain Steve Breen

Captain, M/Y Golden Shadow

Bio

Captain Steve Breen was born in Liverpool, England, and at the age of 17, straight after school, he was taken on as a cadet Deck Officer, working on Gas Ships & Tankers around the world.
Completing his studies in Glasgow, Scotland, he quickly worked his way through the ranks, gaining experience on various commercial ships, ranging from Oil & Gas tankers, Containerships, Cruise ships & Supply boats. After two years working as a Safety Superintendent and Vetting Inspector, he joined the Golden Fleet in 2007.
The lure of travelling the world, on a vessel that had such a unique itinerary, was an opportunity too good to be missed.
Completing expeditions in the Red Sea, Caribbean, Galapagos, French Polynesia and wider Pacific has given him the rare opportunity to visit such remote and breathtaking places.
For the last 10years, he has been living in the South of France with his two young daughters and wife. He enjoys the French wine, the cuisine and infinite more hours of sunshine than Scotland!
‘‘It’s been over 20 years since I stepped onboard my first ship, and I’ve touched every corner of the globe. When seas are calm and the weather is kind, being on the Ocean is a tranquil and peaceful place, away from the grind of life on land. The Pacific is a real gem of a place, and you could lose yourself for a lifetime visiting all of the isolated islands and atolls. Being at sea is my home from home!’’
Captain Breen also enjoys Diving, Snowboarding and following his football team - Liverpool FC.
