Shanee Stopnitzky

Benthic Survey Team

Bio

Shanee Stopnitzky is a PhD student at UC Santa Cruz where she is using network theory to investigate complex resilience dynamics on coral reefs. Prior to starting her PhD, Shanee worked as a research assistant at UC Berkeley and a GIS modeler for the Seasteading Institute. She received a BSc. in Marine Biology from the University of Queensland, Australia and completed her honours thesis on historical ecology of the inshore Great Barrier Reef.
Shanee's work is focused on resilience dynamics with a complex systems approach. Using network analysis, she aims to identify the variables that have the greatest influence on structuring a functioning coral reef so that we can target these for conservation and promote whole ecosystem resilience. She will be assisting with data collection on the benthic survey team for the expedition.
