Thomas Cribb was born in Brisbane where he did all of his schooling and university study (The University of Queensland: BSc, Honours, PhD) before going on to postdoctoral positions at The Natural History Museum (London), CSIRO Wildlife & Ecology (Canberra) and the Queensland Museum (Brisbane). In 1992 he was appointed as a Lecturer at The University of Queensland and has stayed there ever since. His research on fish parasites started in 1981 when he commenced Honours. In 1990 he started to work on marine fish parasites of the Great Barrier Reef and since then he has been working in that field, increasingly exploring localities in the tropical Indo-West Pacific (Maldives, Ningaloo Reef, Palau, New Caledonia and French Polynesia). This will be his fifth trip to French Polynesia. The highest academic recognition he have received was to be awarded the Bancroft Mackerras Medal for excellence in parasitological research by the Australian Society for Parasitology.
