HRH Prince Khaled bin Sultan Accepts the 2012 Perseus Award
HRH Prince Khaled bin Sultan is the 2012 Recipient of the Perseus Award
The 2012 Recipient of the Perseus Award is His Royal Highness Prince Khaled bin Sultan of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. HRH Prince Khaled bin Sultan serves as the chairman and founder of the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation (www.livingoceansfoundation.org) in Washington, DC, an organization dedicated to the conservation and restoration of living oceans through research, education, and a commitment to Science Without Borders(R).
“I now have a passion for preserving and protecting the fragile balance of the seas, not only for my children but also for future generations throughout the world. I have been fortunate to be able to support scientists in their efforts to preserve marine environments, search for new medicines, map global weather changes, and discover the symbiotic interaction of reef organisms, knowing that healthy reefs are a crucial measure of the vitality of the earth itself. But what we have done so far is just the beginning. There is much more that must be accomplished to guarantee the integrity of our oceans. That is why I look forward to a partnership with peoples throughout the world, working to benefit the oceans — and our future.” -HRH Prince Khaled bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz
The Perseus Award was created in 2010 to recognize yacht owners who have demonstrated exemplary effort and contribution toward marine wildlife conservation. The award embodies the spirit of Perseus, the Greek hero; a child of the sea who grew up to be one of its greatest heroes and protectors. It is also meant to encourage luxury yacht owners to take a greater role in conserving our marine heritage given their privileged and intimate relationship with the ocean.
