In this Meet a Scientist video, you’ll learn about a real life coral reef ecologist who has spent her life studying corals and coral reefs.


Alex Dempsey is currently the Coral Reef Ecologist for the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation. She supports the reef ecology research and analysis during the Global Reef Expedition. Alex graduated magna cum laude in 2004 from the College of Holy Cross with a Bachelor’s of Science in Environmental Science and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Environmental Philosophy. Later, she attended Nova Southeastern University obtaining a Master’s of Science degree in Marine Biology and Coastal Zone Management. She graduated from Nova Southeastern University in 2013 with summa cum laude honors with thesis work focusing of reef geomorphology and remote sensing.
